This very popular family event back after a year’s break. In this bumper butterfly year, hope for a still, dry and sunny day to see all the butterflies which live on the Moor.

Following Mark Tyszka’s walk, celebrate the Solstice with music, story telling and shared food and drink.

Gather at the bench by the railway tunnel on the south side of the Moor with your picnic contributions.

A social get together on the Moor for the Friends of Hob Moor and other Moor walkers. Bring food and drink to share plus a lantern/torch. Party pieces welcome! Meet at bench on left as you come through underpass from Little Hob Moor.

Sunday 22 September 2013 7pm: Autumn equinox party

Bring food and drink to share. Also, Bernadette Linfoot is organising donations to York food bank: please give generously of the types of food they need, see http://york.foodbank.org.uk/news-events?newsid=31346. They have plenty of soup, beans and pasta but need things like rice, teabags, tinned veg etc.

Wednesday 28 August 2013 8-9:30pm: Bat Walk

Bob Missin, the man who’s organised the 10-year Stewardship Scheme, will tell us how it’s worked over the last three years and how he hopes it will continue over the next seven.

Friday 21 June 2013 evening 6:30-8:30pm: Nature walk

Mark Tyszka will lead an evening walk to explore the creatures, hedges, trees and flowers of the moor and pasture land. With his interest in folklore, this will lead on well to the summer solstice celebrations (see below).

Join Elizabeth Smith, author of the definitive book of the history of Hob Moor, to find out what has happened here in the past.

Saturday 25 May 2013 1pm-3:30pm: Hob Moor Local Nature Reserve Day
A popular afternoon out, with lots of activities for all the family: details of stall holders and activities to be confirmed. Don’t forget to enter the photography competition – deadline 14 May, entries to be displayed at the Friends stall and winners announced towards the end of the afternoon. Come and vote for your favourite photo!

Monday 22 April 2013 6:30-8pm: Basic photography session
Get tips and advice on photography and maybe take that winning shot for the Hob Moor photo competition! This 2-hour session will run through basic photography skills. It will cover subjects such as macro photography, landscapes, point of view, depth of field, portraits and framing.
Please bring your own camera if you want to have a go.

Winter Solstice Friday 21st December 2012 at 6.30 pm

Friends of Hob Moor are celebrating the Winter Solstice on Friday 21st December at 6.30 pm

Please meet at the Hawthorne tree in the centre of Hob Moor at the Northern end on the main causeway.

It will be difficult to see in the dark as it is not a full moon so lights / lanterns will help.

Please bring food & drink and  bring a friend.

Sunday 17th June 2012:    “June is Bursting Out All Over”       2.00pm-4.00pm

Join this always fascinating walk with Mark Tyszka. Come with us to explore the Moor: to look, to see and to marvel. First the children can stroke a beetle, feed a bumble bee, tickle a flowering grass. Then we can count the petals on buttercups to work out how old they are, admire the trees, remember a poem or quote a folklore myth and much, much more. Bring a notebook to make a 2 minute sketch and bring a camera to take back memories. Walk about 1mile in 2 hours.

Leading this walk will be famous storyteller and poet, Adrian Spendlow. As we plunge into the dark, eerie silence of Hob Moor, Adrian will tell us stories of ghosts and times gone by. It will be a walk you will never forget.
